Fik-Shun’s Improbable Road to ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ Victory

Du-Shaunt "Fik-Shun" Stegall, winner of "So You Think You Can Dance" Season 10

He may not have had the best technique in the dances outside of hip hop, but his magnetic personality all but saturated his performances this summer – so much so that America voted Du-Shaunt “Fik-Shun” Stegall the male winner of Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance.”
Tuesday’s  live episode also saw contemporary dancer Amy Yakima crowned the women’s champ. The two have been dance partners from the beginning of the season, and Fik-Shun credits their pairing with helping him advance each week.
“It meant a lot. America got the chance to connect with us and our partnership together,” he toldTVGuide.com at Tuesday’s finale taping. “I feel like it proved how strong it was that we made it to the end. It just felt so right dancing on stage with her that I wouldn’t have traded in anyone else for her. It was supposed to be us

Last night’s victory seems even more improbable considering Fik-Shun had never really seen the show before auditioning.
“I would honestly only watch the auditions, so I didn’t really know what else came after it,” he told EURweb during a set interview last month, adding that his goal was just to make it past the audition round.
“In my mind, it was more of a, if I do this, I can make it to auditions, then I would be satisfied to an extent, because I felt like that’s all I ever really grew up watching” he said. “But then when you find out you have to do so much more, there’s so much other talent on the show, and everybody’s really, really good"
