‘American Idol’ Champ Candice Glover: ‘I’m Ready to Work’

Candice Glover

*After her name was called as the winner of “American Idol,” Candice Glover headed to the backstage press area and faced a swarm of reporters. [Scroll down to view performances during the finale.]
According to Billboard, the South Carolina native took the podium to discuss overcoming her nerves of singing with Jennifer Hudson, performing her new single in tears, and her plans for sleeping and eating comfort food following the show.
Glover also praised her “Idol” runner up, stating that she can’t wait to buy Kree Harrison’s album and revealed that she’d love to duet with both Jazmine Sullivan and Nicki Minaj.
How does it feel to win?
I’m still trying to process it. I don’t even know my name! Oh my gosh! I don’t know what’s happening! It feels amazing though to finally have gotten to this point after working so hard for so long.
What made you keep coming back and auditioning for the third time?
Well I actually have some friends that decided not to come back but I always knew for some reason that it would happen if I kept going. I even said at some point said, ‘American Idol’ obviously doesn’t want me. Why would I go back?’ but I found myself on the website looking at the auditions again… just being determined. I just couldn’t turn away because I knew that if I kept trying that it would happen.

Keith was saying you held your own against Jennifer Hudson…
I was so nervous backstage. I was like, ‘Oh my gosh; you cannot suck. This is Jennifer Hudson! Don’t mess up. Practice. Get it together.’ I’m just so glad that I got the chance to even do that with her because I look up to her.
You were saying Kree’s name over and over just before Ryan announced you as the winner…
I was saying her name because I was just certain he was going to say her name so I was like “Oh yeah, Kree, Kree, Kree’ and she was like ‘No. Candice, Candice, Candice.’ We are super supportive of each other and I know no matter what, I’m going to be buying Kree’s album. I think the whole world will.

What are you going to do when things calm down tomorrow?
I’m going to try and go to sleep. I don’t think I’m going to get the chance to sleep tonight but I’m going to try and sleep as much as I can and probably eat some chicken or something.
The turn around on your album will be fast. Have you already been recording?
Actually the only song that I’ve recorded is one that I performed when I won the show… my gosh what am I saying? That’s only one I have right now but I know that I’m ready to work

Do you remember even singing your winning song?
I don’t remember him saying my name. I do remember getting confetti in my mouth while I was singing. I wanted to laugh but I was crying and there was just so much happening in that one moment but it felt great.
What was your favorite song you performed?
I think it’s pretty obvious that “Lovesong” is probably my favorite one, only because I was so connected to the lyrics and I knew what it felt like. And then for Keith Urban to start getting on his knees and bowing and Randy being here for 12 years and saying it was the best vocals of his whole 12 years on the show… It felt great because I didn’t expect the reception that I got to be so big. And Mariah threw glitter at me! That was the best moment..

Who would you love to duet with?
Well Jazmine Sullivan is my favorite singer, Whitney Houston…I would have loved to do a song with her. That would have been amazing. Even though she wasn’t there, I would say Aretha Franklin. I mean the whole time tonight, Kree and I were making faces and where like, ‘Oh My God! She is so amazing’ and the whole time to be on the stage was a dream come true. A lot of dreams came true for me tonight.
When will you direct message Drake to be on your album?
Isn’t it even crazy that I can do that though? That he even follows me on Twitter! I don’t know. He knows that I was in the Top 2 because people have been tweeting him and he did say that he was proud of me!

Was it weird when Aretha basically said that you won?
I don’t know. I didn’t really hear that. The fact that she even knows my name or knows who I was… But I love her so much. The whole night was just amazing!
Are you looking forward to going home?
I don’t think I’ll be going home until at least Christmas so… I know that there is so much lined up for me to do.
What was it like being on this season with Randy?
I got his final critique ever last night since I went last! I told him that I was so glad that I was able to experience this with him. He knows how long I’ve been wanting this. I love Randy!

Did Nicki and Mariah say anything to you after the show?
Nicki came up to me and said I was a superstar! She wanted to hug me! She was joking when she was saying, ‘Can I hug the American Idol?’ Every time I say that, I just can’t believe it! She always tells me to have fun and be myself! I love Nicki and would love to collab with her to be honest! I didn’t see Mariah and get to speak to her but I hope that I do.
What do you think you learned the most from being on the show?
I think I’ve definitely learned how to be confident and how to be myself and to be okay with who I am. In previous seasons, I was doing what I thought America wanted or what the judges or whoever wanted, but this year I just did whatever I wanted to do, hence I would do a rappers song on the show, or I would do The Cure when nobody expected me to. In previous seasons, I wouldn’t have done any of that because I wasn’t confidant in who I was so I think that’s the difference between now and the previous seasons.
What’s the first conversation you had with Kree after you found out you won?
We tell each other we love each other probably 90,000 times a day but it really meant a lot for her to hug me and say, ‘I love you and I’m so happy for you.’ And I said the same to her. I’m so proud of her and I can’t wait to see her again so we can have fun tonight.

Are you looking forward to the tour? What songs are you looking forward to performing?
I’m definitely looking forward to the tour because I don’t have to worry about getting eliminated the following night or going home or worrying about votes or anything. I’m definitely going to miss the show but I think that’s the one thing I won’t miss, being stressed out every Thursday. I don’t know what I’m going to perform on the tour yet, but it’s going to be good so I hope y’all come!
Can you talk about the original song and so what you thought when you first heard it and read the lyrics?
When I first heard the song I was actually in tears because I could connect with the song so much. It’s not only about a girl who’s been done wrong by her ex-boyfriend, it’s also about like with me, being attacked all the time and being told that you’re not good enough or you’re not as pretty as you should be, just people saying horrible things to you. I think that that song is a message to everybody who ever said that to me as well as all these girls who are growing up and feeling like they’re not beautiful. I think it connects with a lot of people in their hearts. So I loved it. And like Mariah said, it was a little bit more pop than I was used to but I definitely did what I could to put myself in there at the same time.
How nervous were you last night and how did you feel about your performances?
I was really nervous because I had never performed in front of 7,000 people before but it also gave me that adrenaline that I needed, so I was really excited at the same time. I’m a perfectionist so I found something wrong with every performance, just a lot of things that I could’ve done better. But I’m glad it all worked out! I won!

MattMax sets to direct Big Dada’s ‘King Kong’ video

Big Dada

South African based and Nigerian born Hip-hop star, Big Dada, has said that the music industry in Nigeria is undoubtedly one of the biggest in the world. Dada who returned to Nigeria to begin the shootings of his hit track, titled, King Kong, featuring T-Cross and Oral Cool this Friday, has lauded the effort of young Nigerians who despite the unfavorable environment have continued to excel.
Contrary to people’s expectation that the fast growing rapper would move his crew to South Africa for his ongoing video project, the Bosses Boss affirmed that Nigeria is a beautiful place, with all the talents to conclude work on his video. He told DailyPost that being a patriotic Nigerian, it becomes necessary to return to the country to work with creative hands in the industry.
He also affirmed that Nigeria has the largest entertainment market in Africa and second to the United States in the world, believing that despite the competition in the country, originality would sell any determined artiste to the world.
According to Dada, South Africa may be a beautiful place to shoot one’s video, yet it cannot compete with Nigeria in the entertainment business. “ I live in South Africa, I do music there, but you can’t ignore Nigeria when it comes to the real entertainment business in the world. South Africa is still a baby compared to Nigeria in this business. I’m proud to be a Nigerian,”
Presently, Dada’s hit track, King Kong is enjoying airplay on different radio stations across the country and in South Africa. Dada will commence his video project on Friday, and will be directed by Matt Max, a renowned video director who directed Olamide’s ‘Stupid love’, Dona Divas’ Gaga, and a host of others.

The Angelina Effect: TIME’s New Cover Image Revealed

Angelina Jolie has never lacked for influence. When she adopted a baby from Ethiopia, inquiries at U.S. adoption agencies about other Ethiopian orphans doubled. When she named other children Vivienne or Maddox, those names shot up the popularity charts for American newborns. So this week, when a woman known for her powerfully iconic beauty announced that she had undergone an elective double mastectomy to reduce her genetically high risk of breast cancer, it was a cultural and medical earthquake — a revelation so arresting it became the subject of TIME’s newest cover story, which will publish to TIME.com Thursday morning (before hitting newsstands Friday).
Jolie, by nearly universal agreement, made the right choice for her. She tested positive for the breast cancer-related BRCA1 gene, putting the probability that she would develop the disease at a terrifying 87%; after her surgery, her doctors put that number at just 5%. But a lot of experts worry that we may over-read the lessons. Genetic screening is a young science, and while we may have detected genes linked to a host of ills—Alzheimers disease, prostate cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, heart disease—we often do a terrible job of calculating our resulting risks, making irreversible decisions based on dangers that don’t exist.  Jolie’s brave example can make us all smarter and help keep us healthier — but only if we take the right lessons from it.
To read the new cover story, visit Time.com/Angelina on Thursday morning. Free for subscribers (or purchase a new digital pass).

Popular Nigerian musician Asa just survived an accident in Nashville, USA, some hours ago.

She took to the social media platform, twitter, to narrate how she survived the accident.
According to the her, she was taking a walk and had to cross an intersection when a car, which driver wasn’t looking, hit and sent her flying.
She had padded her butt which eased her landing.
Amazing, talk about breaking your fall with your butt, nice to know you're okay girl.
All thanks to the padded butt!

  1. Was in shock for a minute. Paramedics checked my blood pressure. Everything's fine. Thank God I'm alive today. Hope you are well.
  2. I feel a little woozy. But everything's fine. Got a ride in a police car and let the driver off with stern warning.
  3. The driver wore tiny frames that f'ed up her peripherals. Told her she need jumbo glasses like mine. I'm well just a little wooz
  4. Thank God I landed on my padded butt. The only thing that got crushed was my water bottle.
  5. I was crossing an intersection, going for a walk, a car turning didn't see me and boom!! Sent me flying.

Malcolm Shabazz, Grandson Of Malcolm X, Dead At 28

Juan Ruiz, a member of the California-based labor organization Rumec, told Talking Points Memothat Shabazz was in Mexico City with Miguel Suarez at the time of his murder.
Earlier reports claimed that he was in Tijuana.
“He’s a supporter of our organization,” said Ruiz. “He went to Mexico to meet with Miguel.”
The organization confirmed that he was traveling with them via a Facebook post.
To who responds, I am Miguel Suarez, leader of a labor movement in the United States and I am accompanied by Malcolm X’s grandson. His name is Malcolm Shabazz and he wanted to see if it is possible to to speak and publish our history in their [publication]…what we saw in Mexico City.

Though earlier reports claimed that Shabazz was shot, Ruiz said that the young revolutionary was beaten to death:
He was murdered. He was in Mexico City and I believe they attempted to rob him and he didn’t allow it, so they beat him to death and he died on his way to the hospital,” said Ruiz. “This is all I can confirm, everything else is under investigation for the meantime.”
Officials with the State Department would not confirm Shabazz’s death, but did confirm the death of a US citizen:
“We are aware of the death of a U.S. citizen in Mexico City. We have been in contact with the family members and at their request, there will be no further comment at this time,” a State Department official said in response to an inquiry about Shabazz.

 The Amsterdam News reports:
The Amsterdam News has learned, and the U.S. Embassy has reportedly confirmed, that Malcolm Shabazz, son of Malcolm X, was killed on early Thursday morning, May 9, 2013.
“I’m confirming, per US Embassy, on behalf of family, the tragic death of Malcolm Shabazz, grandson of Malcolm X. Statement frm family 2 come,” wrote close friend of the Shabazz family Terrie M. Williams on twitter.
He reportedly died from injuries sustained after he was thrown off a building as he was being robbed in Tijuana. Again, this has not been confirmed.
Early reports said he was shot. Information is still coming in.
Shabazz is survived by his three year old daughter, Ilyasah, his mother, Qubilah, and his closest aunt, Ilyasah, among others. Shabazz was living with his grandmother Betty Shabazz, when he set fire to her Yonkers, N.Y. home in 1997. Mrs. Shabazz died from severe burns caused by the fire. Shabazz was just 12-years-old at the time. He eventually plead guilty to manslaughter and arson and was sentenced to 18 months in a juvenile detention facility. Years later, he told the Amsterdam News that he had not set the fire.
He was in the process of writing two books, at least one of which was a manuscript. He was attending John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York.

'American Idol' 2013: we finally have the top 2 and its a shocker!

Don't think i predicted this one? On tonight's "American Idol" 2013 Top 3 results show revealing the Top 2  it was Candice Glover and Kree Harrison to make it to next week's finale? Amazing really i was in shock personally feel Americans got this one all wrong and Angie Miller should be in the running for the price, Candice Glover is good but not as good as Angie, for crying out loud she Candice only had one night of great performance, Angie has always showed she had it even from her first audition.

Oh! well she is out and it's down to Candice and Kree, my opinion? personally feel Kree will carry the day come next week's finale, Candice should give a good fight well the votes has always favored the less likely and i hope this time it favor's the more likely!

Just found out that come next season American Idol will be kicking out this year judges......hmmm! think Keith Urban should remain he did awesome well Randy has had his fill so him leaving sounds ideal,  the people he started the show with are all gone so his announcing that he will be leaving isn't much of a surprise.

Miss Minaj well don't know what i think cos personally feel her ish with Maria is just some Tv stunts for ratings!

So tweeps who wins it? Candice or Kree?
